99% of people make these mistakes when starting a business. Here's how to avoid them:
A cheatsheet for making money online if you're new to the game...and hungry to get going 😈 Warning: This article contains uncomfortable truths many people have argued with me over:
(How do I know 99% make common errors? Most studies indicate 99% of people who launch businesses close them down within 10 years. If you wanna win long term AND quickly, read this to the end):
1. Move back in with your parents- spend your rent money on ads to grow your brand
I know a % of you can’t do this with family/kids.
For everyone else, how much do you want it?
I’ve lived the life of running no ads, building “organically” - You have NO life as you have to be on all day basically every day.
Fun fact: I made more friends in the six weeks I spent in America last autumn than I did in three years of living in L.A. before when I was running the “Vin Clancy” brand.
It made money (I made a million dollars in my first year) but there was a cost.
Friends and fun are important to me, just as family, or traveling, might be important to you.
You need to spend money to grow your business, likely through ads (most predictable way of growing a business BAR NONE)
2. Come up with a brand name, try and get the .com website- if no one is using the .com fine to have something else as long as the social media handles aren’t busy on social media
Why not just use your name? 🤔
Two main reasons:
Using your name as your handle reduces follows
People look at your social media handle when they check out your social media profile.
Your name means nothing, but “youneedtogetfit” is obviously a fitness trainer/program, and is a call to action.
My current handle is “dailycheatcodes” which elicits interest “cheat codes in what?” which means they read the bio “daily strategies in marketing, growth hacking and copywriting” so they know EXACTLY what they will get if they sign up.
There’s a Twitter guide I have which goes into this point in more detail, including examples of people who followed the guide to the letter OTHER than changing their handle to be relevant to the brand - and the account did not grow.
If YOU are 100% the brand, with your name, the brand is hard to remove yourself from/sell.
I had issues with being “Vin Clancy” - too much needed my face, hence this time round “Daily Cheat Codes” will start with me being 100% the face, but you might have noticed the logo moved away from my face to a brand logo know that I’ve established the brand to my core followers.
3. Form a Facebook group, post once a day, reply to every comment
(Read these articles for more info on getting started)
4. Create greatest hits posts out of the things you tell people that makes them say “wow! I never knew that!”
Stack these up to very quickly show expertise when you first meet someone.
People care less about your experience and where you’ve worked, more about ideas they haven’t heard before that might change their life.
I try and pull this out of people by asking them “Tell me something I don’t know about xyz” - Good test to see where someone’s brain is at and what they consider a unique idea.
