When dishonesty holds you back
There are three problems ChatGPT can't solve. Today, I look at the first, most important, part: Dishonesty.
A few days ago, I discovered someone I had been mentoring had not been honest with me.He didn’t lie to my face - he lied by omission.
I happened to work something out that I think might be holding them back and confronted them about it.(I noticed they take a long time to reply to messages, and the final straw was them not returning my phonecall after ignoring 2 days worth of messages I had sent them)
As it turned out, they hadn’t just been ignoring me.
They had lost contact with and let slide hundreds of partnerships and potential clients (that they know of!) that they hadn’t told me about (dishonesty by omission).
Dishonesty is a trojan horse you smuggle in which can wreck your progress.
We got a plan together and solve it, but if I as a coach hadn’t noticed a behaviour and confronted them with it, they would have “gotten away with” “not looking bad” in front of me 💀
People think coaching is “Teaching good knowledge about the thing you are an expert in”That’s not even half the battle.
The main issue is actually getting people moving towards their goal aka DOING the thing.
Almost EVERYONE you coach will do this!
(Yes, even if you’re coaching high-flying executives, everyone has their “smuggles” that you need to find)
No one wants to look bad in front of someone they respect.
This is where ChatGPT has a major advantage over humans. You can admit things to ChatGPT that you may be embarrassed to tell someone else.
In my “How to grow a personal brand quickly using ChatGPT” book (yours for nothing (a freebie!) when you upgrade to my paid Substack plan, which you can do on this link), the very first chapter gives you every prompt for “using ChatGPT as a coach to failure-proof your idea”ChatGPT is not gonna judge you.
But you first need to understand how to talk to it (which is in my books if you haven’t started yet) and secondly be brutally honest with it.
Tim Ferriss once said “A person's victories in their lives can be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.”
ChatGPT can help you, but you need to be brutally honest about your faults and everything you’re getting wrong so that it gives you the most useful response.
