Why is everyone so obsessed with ChatGPT prompts?
On day one of ChatGPT, it was decided that they were the shortcut. Ever since then, if you've ever interacted with a single entrepreneur, you see ads for them all day long. Why though?
The strange thing about seeing ChatGPT explode this year was…
(Well, it was many things, not least all the crypto bro’s forgetting what an Ethereal is and claiming to have used ChatGPt since 2009, but)
Normally the “how to” brigade be putting out their $7 ebooks when a new business trend emerges.
There were a few of those, but what was (and still is!) selling like hot cakes are the CHATGPT PROMPTS.
Prompts are the words/code/functions you type into ChatGPT to get a result.
The better the prompt, the better the result.
A lesson in speed:
A friend of mine got tipped off that a competitors’ prompt pack was doing 10X returns on Facebook ads (i.e. for every dollar they spent, they got ten back)…he told me he was planning on launching a bigger set of prompts and get a slice of that easy money
Well
Rather than hustling to get the initial money up to run ads, he decided to try and engage investors and “do it properly”
Six months later, he still hasn’t launched.
Prompts can still be sold but the market is saturated, and 2X returns on investment are not guaranteed, let alone 10X.
A few weeks ago I was looking for capital to help grow a business (this Substack)
I know investors in London, hell I could probably get £350,000 using SEIS investment, buuuuut…that would take weeks or months to close, so I asked ChatGPT to plan me something to get quick money in, it spat out a “ChatGPT copywriting/make money with ChatGPT mastermind”, I released it to my followers and made $30,000 - enough to get going.
I don’t mean to sound like it’s easy - It was hard work, but by growing an audience (which is easier once you have ChatGPT as your secret weapon) you can raise money fast if you want to start a new business.
My friend waited and the opportunity passed him by.
But, back to prompts.
So these prompts pack were selling like hotcakes as ChatGPT hit “mainstream” (50 million+ users) because people wanted shortcuts.
Disclosure: I have made prompts too!
My paid premium substack plan (upgrade HERE with $100 off yearly) package has over 2,000 prompts, and I sold them as part of my ChatGPT bundle, I too was “in on the craze”
But the reason I didn’t *only* sell those?
(I’ll keep saying it until I’m blue in the face)
ChatGPT is a tool, not a magic button.
You need to have a good idea of:
A) Your brand
B) How to build an audience to sell to (if you don’t have thousands in budget for paid ads-end)
C) What to sell, how to price it
In my “how to build a personal brand fast using ChatGPT” book (get it free as part of my Substack premium HERE) there is a large chapter on using ChatGPT as a coach to failure-proof your idea.
I believe in it- I’ve told everyone in my masterclass to do it.
I do it for myself when I’m launching something new
BUT
The reason I wrote an entire book, and my entire brand is focused on “how to make money with ChatGPT” is that prompts alone are not enough.
If you’re a coach/consultant/agency owner, pay attention here:
IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW GOOD THE TECHNOLOGY, COACHING, OR SERVICE YOU ARE SELLING IS: THERE IS A WHOLE OTHER SKILL GETTING PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND IT, TRY IT, AND USE IT REGULARILY TO GET RESULTS.
All these companies selling prompts will get a one-time customer.
50% will not even open the prompts pack they just bought
25% will look, try one or two prompts, and never use it again
25% will try it out
Of 100% who buy it, maybe 10% will take action.
This is part of the reason I won’t be selling individual books again (even though my last book sold $50,000 in three weeks!)
…It is far, far more valuable for you to be in a community (like my Whatsapp group) learning and troubleshooting with other entrepreneurs, and have multiple SPECIFIC resources to teach you WHY you should use ChatGPT, as well as HOW.
I’ve pivoted my entire brand and stopped taking on so many agency clients in order to go all in growing my Substack premium as I believe it is the best way I can serve the most people.
Many of you know how I was on welfare/benefits before I started my first business a little over 10 years ago.
Within a year I was given $250,000 investment and the rest is history.
If I can provide value in this world it is to help as many people as possible do the same in my paid Substack subscription (yearly upfront w/ $100 discount HERE and more info on what’s in the bundle HERE)
…But also if you just want the prompts there are 200 in there, and I’m constantly adding to the “mega-prompts” document.
I love you all!
Vin
p.s. please forward this to two friends who might get value from it!
